Icon Buckhead, the tallest apartment building ever to rise in the neighborhood, is beginning its ascent along Peachtree Road, near Lenox Square.
Concrete columns now stand a story above the adjacent Maggiano’s parking lot, just a stone’s throw from the Buckhead MARTA Station.
The building would also be adjacent to the planned Ga. Highway 400-topping park, planned to open in 2022 or 2023.
Once complete, the project by Florida-based Related Group is intended to serve up some 362 units.
Initial indications are that the units will be divided as 15 percent studios, 35 percent one-bedroom, 35 percent two-bedroom, and 15 percent three-bedroom options, though it’s unclear if the array has been finalized.
The project has been in the works since 2015, with renderings first revealed nearly two years ago. Earlier this year, demolition crews made quick work of the brutalist Buckhead Christian Church that’d stood on the site.
Expect construction to persist through next year.
Update: The article has been updated to reflect the project’s name change from Apogee Buckhead to Icon Buckhead.
