Piedmont Road near Peachtree Road in Buckhead is a bustling place, with six lanes of traffic packed curb-to-curb; and two years ago, it seemed destined to get far more crowded.
Way back in the spring of 2015, Coro Realty unveiled plans for a large mixed-use development to fill the parking lots and an empty parcel at their Buckhead Place shopping center.
Plans called for 35,000 square feet of new retail, 190 apartments, and a 186-room Hampton Inn.
Fast forward to today, and the new hotel is taking shape just north of the existing Rooms to Go, but plans for the remainder of the development are in limbo.
Last summer, Coro inexplicably threw the brakes on the project, announcing that only the hotel would move forward. Then, in early 2017, the developer indicated the remaining land may become offices instead.
The uncertainty about the site remains, much like the fate of the adjacent Disco Kroger parcel. Plans were revealed back in 2016 for a transformative project on that site as well.
But anyhow, with vertical construction wrapping up on the hotel and work commencing on the facade, look for the new accommodation option to open in 2018.
