After a slow start this summer, construction at the corner of West Peachtree and 8th streets is finally kicking into high gear.
Alexan 880, a 22-story apartment tower, is slated to bring some 355 residential units to an already booming neighborhood.
Designed by Rule Joy Trammell + Rubio for Trammell Crow Residential, the tower will sit atop a seemingly now-standard seven-story parking deck and 10,000 square feet of retail space.
However, according to renderings, the parking will be concealed along West Peachtree Street by residential units—a welcome alternative to some other under-construction projects in the area.
The building replaces a modernist four-story office building and parking lot, which had stood on the site for decades.
Renters here will join an immediate neighborhood of almost entirely new construction, with Alta Midtown, the NCR headquarters, Modera Midtown, and Coda all contributing to the boom.
Meanwhile, the adjacent parcel containing the Cheetah may be ripe for redevelopment, but current owners indicate they have no intentions of selling, per AJC columnist Bill Torpy.
According to the Trammell Crow Residential website, units will average 918 square feet, likely meaning a healthy mix of one- and two-bedroom options.
The first move-ins are expected in January 2019, with completion slated for March of that year.
