Photos: Midtown Atlanta in white with season’s first snow

The metro got a visit from Winter Storm Benji, bringing a few inches of Devil’s Dandruff to a non-berserk region.

Friday and the wee hours of Saturday brought a surprising amount of snow to the metro, with as much as a foot of accumulation reported in the northern suburbs.

From all accounts, the winter weather wasn’t nearly as disruptive as 2014’s Snowpocalypse, despite initially hitting just before noon. While traffic stacked up throughout the day, complete chaos was avoided thanks in part to temperatures hovering above freezing.

Snow continued throughout the night, leaving a blanket of the fluffy stuff across the city. Perfect timing for a weekend wonderland.

With the sun out and city and state mobilized to treat major roads, the snow was less of a major inconvenience and more of a beautiful bit of pre-holiday decoration.

We struck out on Saturday to capture Midtown in white, encountering Atlantans (and their four-legged friends) enjoying the rare wintery scene.
