Just a block up North Avenue from Ponce City Market, 525 North was intended to be a gleaming new loft office offering unlike anything else in the city.

Plans for the project, in the works since early 2015, were slick and sexy.

Then the financial troubles hit.

Now, nearly two years after old apartments were demolished on the site at North Avenue and Arnold Street, construction has begun on new rentals.

Crescent Communities, which took control of the site early this year, will construct NOVEL O4W. According to Bisnow, the building will feature 233 apartments in a stepped building on the 2.2-acre site.

While the design is a radical departure from the industrial-chic aesthetic once promised by 525 North, not all aspects of the former vision have been abandoned.

Along with the residential units, NOVEL is slated to include 10,500 square feet of “creative office space.” For context, that’s about one-third of the space Industrious initially occupied (prior to expansion) at Ponce City Market.

This isn’t the only new project on the docket for the developer, which has constructed projects in Buckhead and West Midtown.

Crescent plans are also in the works at Perimeter and along Lenox Road in Buckhead.
