A long-planned residential development adjacent to Buckhead’s most famous grocery store could be getting the axe in favor of office space.

For years, Coro Realty has been planning a major residential and retail development for the Buckhead Place shopping center on Peachtree Road at Piedmont. Currently, a strip center, residential tower, and vacant parcels consume the site, which sits adjacent to the Disco Kroger shopping center.

But it seems market conditions are changing, and offices could sprout where the apartments were once planned.

Bisnow reports that Coro Realty’s John Lundeen revealed the change in direction at a recent roundtable about developments in Buckhead, but he offered no other specifics about the plans or a timeline.

Meanwhile, on the adjacent site, plans were unveiled a year ago for a modern mixed-use development to spruce up Piedmont Crossing—the shopping center with Disco Kroger.

The news comes as Disco Kroger’s more infamous cousin Murder Kroger is being redeveloped to become part of an office tower along the Beltline known as 725 Ponce.

The news seems to hint that offices may be the next big part of this development cycle, but lest we forget, anecdotally speaking, that a planned office project has morphed into apartments near the Ponce redevelopment.
