As Mercedes-Benz Stadium creeps closer to completion, the neighborhood around it is beginning to see development tied in with (or at least partially inspired by) the much-anticipated coliseum.
Construction officially started yesterday on the long-anticipated Hard Rock Hotel in Castleberry Hill, according to CBS46.
Plans call for the 200-room hotel to be part of a larger mixed-used complex known as Castleberry Point. Along with the Hard Rock, the development will include 130 apartment units, 20,000 square feet of retail space, a community park, and 400 parking spaces.
Twenty percent of the apartments will be made available to residents making less than 80 percent of the area’s median income, thanks to a $4.2-million grant from the Westside Tax Allocation District.
The $90-million project marks the first major investment in the neighborhood in years. And its leaders point to the stadium as a catalyst for development in the neighborhood just to the south.
Delays have consistently plagued the Hard Rock project. Construction was supposed to have started last year.
With ground finally broken, the hotel should open in time for Super Bowl LIII in 2019, officials say.
