But with a contract pending, that chance may be gone

The words “Old Fourth Ward” and “penthouse” aren’t usually bedfellows, but such residences do exist. And according to this listing, they can change a buyer’s life.

Boasting a wraparound “Sky Terrace” and cavernous interior, this top-floor corner unit across the street from Ponce City Market is being promoted as an all-caps “ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY” with this tidbit for added punch: “There is nothing else available like this home anywhere.”

But this rare bird may have flown, as it listed for $695,000 two weeks ago and quickly bagged a contract, still pending.

With two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a hair shy of 1,800 square feet, the condo is perched atop the Glen Iris Lofts, a four-story mid-rise building of 110 units that opened back in 2002, when nearby Historic Fourth Ward Park was essentially a flood-prone dump and PCM was mostly vacant.

Perks include a dynamite 88 WalkScore and a patio so lush it makes Pike Nurseries look like the outskirts of Reno. Beyond the greenery, this oversized outdoor space has a hot tub and automatic retractable blinds.

The two-story interior aesthetic is heavy on brick walls and exposed ducts, with an open-concept upstairs bedroom that’s accessed, somewhat awesomely, by an industrial-style bridge.

There may be some validity to the claims of exclusiveness with this opportunity, as the condo hasn’t sold in 12 years, per property records.

So for preadolescents of Atlanta, this is indeed a once-in-a-lifetime proposition.
