Construction has started going vertical on Midtown’s latest luxe apartment project.

Columns and a wall are rising at West Peachtree and 8th streets, where Alexan 880 will bring more than 350 residential units to the quickly densifying neighborhood.

The project showed up on the development docket a year ago, and demolition of the low-rise office building that formerly occupied the site began last December.

Designed by Rule Joy Trammell + Rubio for Trammell Crow Residential, the 22-story building is slated to feature 10,000 square feet of retail space, too.

A seven-story parking deck will be left exposed on the west side of the building, visible over The Cheetah lounge from Spring Street. While that façade is less than ideal, it’s very likely the land adjacent will be developed in favor of density in the long run—as Cheetah employees acknowledged in a Curbed National story last year—masking the parking deck within the block.

The neighborhood is booming, with construction of NCR's headquarters happening just down the street, and projects like Modera Midtown, Alta Midtown, and Post Midtown adding nearly 1,200 additional units.
