Midtown’s northernmost major construction project is plowing ahead along West Peachtree Street, with concrete columns and even a few floors sticking above street level.

Ascent Midtown, which has been underway for a year, will bring 176 hotel rooms and 328 apartments to West Peachtree Street at 18th Street.

Located at the northern edge of Midtown, just south of Buckhead, the project is the largest new development in the area north of 17th Street in years.

Designed by R2L:Architects and being built by Greystar, the 22-story project will also feature ground-floor retail and (of course) a parking deck for 532 cars, accessed off Spring Street.

The building replaces a three-story midcentury office structure and a vacant lot—a very welcome change for the neighborhood.

Construction will last well into 2018.
