Doraville’s Assembly releases new plans; major tenant to add 500 jobs

The Doraville mixed-use development, adjacent to MARTA, is about to grow

Doraville’s Assembly development got a major boost last week with the announcement that mattress giant Serta Simmons Bedding would be consolidating management and relocating more than 500 employees to the MARTA-adjacent venture.

According to a press release, the Fortune 400 company will move into a new 250,000-square-foot facility on five acres of the 165-acre site.

In addition to the corporate headquarters, the facility will also house research and development labs and an international showroom.

At Assembly, the mattress company will join Third Rail Studios, a filming studio and production group that already calls the development home.

While the grand vision for the complex (see below) is ambitious, the redevelopment of the former General Motors production site is still in its infancy.

The announcement that Serta Simmons would be relocating to the area is a shot-in-the-arm following a failed bid to attract GE and an ongoing fight over funding with DeKalb County’s school system.

With the good tenant news, and an injection of $300 million earlier this year, it seems this project is getting out of neutral.
