Winter SPACES, a division of Winter Construction, recently started work on the renovations of Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Hall at Spelman College.
Originally completed in 1951, this four-story, 31,472-square-foot building welcomed first-year students starting in 1952.
Currently, 125 students are housed in single, double, triple, and quad occupancy rooms.
The major of the renovations are focused on replacing windows, shutters, doors, gutters and downspouts, guardrails and handrails, and interior finishes and hardware.
Upgrades to the electrical systems and repairs to the roof, exterior brick, and portico also will be completed.
In addition, all bathtubs will be converted to showers, with new showers and bathrooms being added. Select dorm rooms will be reconfigured as well.
Architectural firm Menefee Architecture of Atlanta is working with Winter SPACES on the renovation. All work is expected to be completed in August just prior to the start of the 2017-2018 academic year.
