A parking garage in the heart of downtown Atlanta, constructed in the 1930s, has been given a new lease on life by Georgia State University.

The school recently completed renovations on the 25 Park Place Annex Building—located across Edgewood Avenue from the Hurt Building—to create four floors of office space out of the formerly car-oriented structure.

Local architecture firm Praxis3 oversaw the renovations, which made the building more pedestrian-friendly while restoring the charm and historic details of the Art Deco Structure.

Outside, relief carvings of automobile components were cleaned up and new energy-efficient windows were installed to mimic the old. Inside, the concrete was painted out to brighten the space, and a large lobby was placed adjacent to the street to create an interactive space.

Original details of the building, alluding to its vehicular origins, were restored.
