Just southwest of downtown on Whitehall Street, a long-abandoned, former industrial building is about to be reborn as a chic new office building, plans indicate.
Plans for 691 Whitehall have been lodged with the Beltline Design Review Committee to allow for transformation of the structure into a small-scale office building with an industrial vibe.
In addition to interior improvements, accessibility upgrades, and a freshened-up facade, plans call for a rooftop deck, to offer sweeping views of downtown to the north.
Records indicate the 14,000-square-foot building dates to 1925 and sold last year for $50,000.
No additional car parking is planned for the site. However, the submission to the DRC indicates there will be facilities for 10 bikes.
Additionally, according to a source familiar with the project, the owner is working with MARTA to create a direct connection from the building into the adjacent West End Station.
Work could commence soon on the upgrades and is expected to take only a few months.
