The long-planned redevelopment of an underutilized parking lot at MARTA’s King Memorial Station could get underway by the end of the year.

According to a submittal by developers Place Properties and Russell New Urban, the $64.5-million project will include 385 residential units, ranging from studios to two-bedroom, two-bathroom models.

With $6 million in funding from Invest Atlanta, the project is slated to provide at least a quarter of the units for income-restricted households. The breakdown of the units and pricing are featured in this chart:

Snuggled between the MARTA Station and Oakland Cemetery, the Smith Dalia-designed project will utilize a new modular construction method that’s been used in San Jose and Brooklyn.

Thanks to this swift construction process, the development will supposedly take just 14 months to erect.

While the Transit Oriented Development is generally good news for the neighborhood, it’s disappointing that an apartment complex practically on top of a transit station is going to feature more than 400 parking spaces.

In any case, construction is slated to begin in December and wrap up in January 2019.
