With the fall semester well underway at Georgia Tech, work is plowing ahead on a new student housing tower on West Peachtree Street, between 3rd and 4th streets.

The Standard—a 19-story private housing block—is rising on the site of a former Starbucks and single-story commercial buildings. Much progress has been made on the structure since students left for summer break in May.

The project is being developed by Landmark Enterprises and Selig and will bring 280 units and 11,200 square feet of retail space to a part of West Peachtree Street in need of enlivening.

With the residence hall, student activity and street life is likely to increase in the area, not unlike the vibrancy brought by Square on Fifth and University House just a few blocks north.

The Niles Bolton Associates-designed building will include a sky deck with shuffleboard and a pool with views of Bobby Dodd Stadium. Pumpkin Spice Lattes™ will return to the site with the inclusion of a new Starbucks—drive-thru and all—in the retail space.

Construction is slated to finish next year, and the building will welcome its first residents in the fall.

Work is beginning on the adjacent parking deck.
