In the shadow of MARTA’s King Memorial station, a slew of new apartments is coming to life in the tiny neighborhood of Oakland.

The project, formerly known simply as Grant Park Apartments, has been officially named “Platform” by developer Fairfield Residential.

Located just west of Oakland Cemetery, the building is taking shape along MLK, Jr. Drive, between Hill and Fort streets. Plans call for 325 units, including studios and one- and two-bedroom options.

The work of Dwell Design Studio, Platform will include an array of outdoor spaces to entice future residents. Beyond simply the standard pool and cookout area, the building will have “three luxurious amenity courtyards ... consisting of a main pool courtyard, a secondary lap pool courtyard, and a third serenity garden with a bocce court,” per marketing materials.

Inside, amenities will include a “summer kitchen,” gaming room, club room, and fitness facilities.

The project is rising across the street from neighborhood favorite Nick’s Greek Corner. Plans call for land surrounding the restaurant to be turned into another apartment building, while the restaurant will remain.

Delivery of Platform is scheduled for spring next year.
