After three months, the chic parking-lot replacement has risen beyond a field of columns.

A new dual-branded hotel property in the heart of Midtown, first announced more than two years ago, is heading skyward at last.

It’s another piece in the rapid metamorphosis of a key Midtown artery, stretching from the pending Colony Square revamp to an in-progress Whole Foods near The Connector.

While construction technically got underway at the site—snuggled between the Four Seasons Atlanta and the Marriott Suites Midtown—earlier this year, and the first columns were poured over the summer, concrete formwork and the first two floors of structure have now risen out of the ground.

The nearly 300-room property is filling what had been an old parking lot. Slated to have a split personality, the dual-branded Marriott property will include an AC Hotel and a Moxy Hotel.

When it opens, the AC will be the third incarnation of the brand in Atlanta, following the first in Buckhead and a downtown location currently under construction. Meanwhile, the project will bring the first Moxy in Georgia.

The AC is described as a European experience, while the Moxy is “designed for millennials,” according to Marriott.

With more than 250,000 square feet, divided between two towers, the building will house 288 rooms total.

The AC tower, facing 13th Street, will have 133 rooms, while the 14th Street-facing Moxy will have 155. The towers will sit atop a large parking deck.

Construction is slated to carry well into next year.
