Developed in the 1950s due south of downtown, 600-acre Lake Spivey is said to be the largest private lake community in metro Atlanta.

More fun trivia: In its early days, the lake was known for swimming and water-ski competitions, and in the 1960s and ’70s became a popular concert destination, hosting the likes of B.B. King, Chicago, and Tina Turner.

Now, according to Stephanie Burt of Keller Williams Realty, Lake Spivey is synonymous with “peaceful tranquility,” a respite for white cranes and ducks tucked off Interstate 75, near the I-675 fork.

For the past two years, Burt has been renovating a four-bedroom, waterfront property that’d been suffering from 1983-itis—and subsequently, an inability to sell.

She brought the Jonesboro property to market last week at $699,000, angling the two-story house toward new families, retirees, or any Atlantan jonesing for a nearby weekend getaway.

Some of the “Eighties Fabulous” bones and dimensions remain intact, juxtaposed now with dark hardwoods, shaker cabinetry, cedar accents, and rustic-contemporary ceiling beams.

It’s roomy at 3,442 square feet, with an open floorplan (and expansive double-decker patios) that emphasizes lake views.

Given the sheer mass of land and location, the WalkScore of 0 is to be expected, but that doesn’t mean a stroll around the lake isn’t agreeable. An added bonus, per Burt, is the ability to watch summertime fireworks over the lake, without leaving the house.
