On former pastures and forestlands of Fayette County, construction has launched on a new wellness center that will serve as one of the main anchors of Pinewood Forest’s town center.

Officials held a groundbreaking last week at the site, located south of Atlanta, for the Piedmont Fayette Wellness Center, which will provide more than 60,000 square feet of exercise and healthcare space.

The two-story structure will house not only gym and fitness uses but also space for medical professionals, including physical therapists and exercise physiologists.

More than just a gym, the facility will forge a partnership between the Pinewood Forest area, Piedmont Fayette Hospital, and Pace Lynch Corporation, to create a unique “medically integrated wellness center,” officials said.

When complete, the center will include a six-lane lap pool, therapy pool, fitness studios to host everything from hot yoga to physical therapy sessions, a spin studio, gym facilities, and Georgia’s first D1 Sports Training program.

Beyond the building, users will be able to take advantage of activity lawns and 15 miles of trails being developed as part of the mixed-use neighborhood.

The Wellness Center will be open to the public through membership, and outpatient services will be available by appointment. Those who buy a home in the development, representatives noted, will have the opportunity to land a membership with their home purchase.

Construction on the Perkins + Will-designed facility is anticipated to be complete in late 2019.
