Recently renovated, this 1914 home mixes “old school charm” with modern finishes to create a “Southern classic”

Originally constructed in 1914, this Adair Park granite home is touted as the “best house on the best street in the best Southwest neighborhood,” according to the listing.

With four bedrooms and four bathrooms, the 2,800-square-foot house should seem rather spacious; however, the layout is such that many of the rooms appear to be long and narrow, making them seem cramped.

While the kitchen is “beautifully renovated,” it remains quite short on storage despite the new Shaker cabinets. Windows also seem to be in short supply throughout the house as well.

The pine floors add character, particularly with the design inlays, but the stone and brick fireplaces seem out of place. Although striking, that purple bathroom also is out of place given the home’s style.

The wraparound front porch is quite inviting, which is good for those “monthly porch parties” held in the neighborhood. Behind the house, the new deck is a nice addition overlooking a large backyard.

Calling the home’s neighborhood a “tight-knit Beltline community” seems to be a bit of a stretch, although the Westside Trail is not far away.

The current asking price of $445,000 also seems to be reaching, given it’s nearly $100,000 more than what homes have sold for recently. But, since it’s the “best house,” maybe it will land an offer for the full ask. Or not.
