Thanks to the recent purchase of a detention pond property from MARTA, the City of Chamblee is ready to add to its already popular one-mile Rail Trail.
Included in a 2016 Rail Trail Extension study, the property will be converted into a trail extension that crosses Chamblee Tucker Road, creating a pedestrian connection and pocket park.
Once completed, the redeveloped green space will be a welcome addition between Keswick Park and the city’s Town Center Project, officials declared this week.
“Acquiring this property allows the city to add a significant connection to our trail system,” City Manager Jon Walker stated in a press release. “This is a step toward completion of the trail system in downtown Chamblee, providing safe and convenient pedestrian and bicycle connections for residents and businesses across Peachtree Boulevard.”
The City of Chamblee will draw upon SPLOST funds to finance the trail extension construction beginning in 2019.

This marks another step forward for Chamblee’s Rail Trail, which received an $80,000 grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission in February to help design phase three of the project.
