Chastain Walk property from early 1960s offers unique design facets

A rare midcentury modern condo complex in Atlanta.

Nestled off Roswell Road, directly east of Atlanta’s largest green space, Chastain Park, this 1961 complex offers interesting lines and facets such as clerestory windows that are hallmarks of midcentury-modern cool.

The condos at Chastain Walk are generally large, relatively speaking, and the low-slung property overall is a reprieve from the glass and concrete that defines so much of Atlanta’s condo inventory.

For buyers who dig that sort of thing, that is.

Listed this week for $199,000, the latest Chastain Walk offering is billed as a “move-in-ready home [that] won’t last long,” a claim based on its location and uniqueness. (Sprouts, Starbucks, and Fresh Market stand across the street, but the 28 “Car-Dependent” WalkScore is not an attribute.)

Inside, the midcentury-ness shines through by way of the living room’s clerestory windows, with a roofline that carries over a cool, private nook of a patio.

Pertinent numbers: Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and 1,176 square feet, which is comparable to some bungalows around town.

If various online sources are accurate, the HOA fees clock in at $440 annually—or just $37 per month. That covers amenities such as a dog walk and pool.

The kitchen, bathrooms, and bedrooms don’t exactly dazzle, but for unfussy buyers, they’d qualify as utilitarian enough and certainly move-in-ready.

Some compromises are expected, of course, for a dwelling of this size in a convenient location priced less than $200,000.
