Yet another major Howell Mill Road project has taken a step toward breaking ground.

According to requests filed for a land development permit, the $150-million mixed-use project 8 West is moving forward. (Construction was initially slated to kick off this month, although the permit request is pending review.)

Developed by Atlantic Capital Properties and Gateway Ventures, the project would combine 175,000 square feet of office space, 10,000 square feet of retail, and 264 apartments at the corner of Howell Mill Road and 8th Street.

Architects from MSTSD and ASD|SKY are designing the development, and Trammel Crow Residential is in charge of developing the apartments.

A Gateway Ventures representative told Curbed Atlanta the development is expected to break ground later this quarter.

8 West would also bring aboard businesses that currently operate at the four-acre project site, such as Arden’s Garden, Bocado, and Bartaco.

Additionally, the Hathaway Gallery would be incorporated into the project and is expected to help add artistic flair to the development.

Elsewhere on metamorphosing Howell Mill, the $90 million Star Metals Atlanta residential development (a 14-story office stack and separate 400-unit apartment building) is coming together, while the neighboring Osprey project aims to bring another 300 apartments and retail to the corridor.

Nearby, permit filings show that a glassy condo tower, the under-construction 788 West Midtown project, will rise with 18 residential floors above four stories of parking, plus a pool deck.

Located at 788 West Marietta Street, the condo high-rise would bring a new dash of luxury to the area, with units ranging from the mid-$500,000s to upwards of $1 million.
