For more than a year, the city has been attempting to shut down the Peachtree-Pine shelter via eminent domain to allow for the construction of a consolidated police, fire, and SWAT facility to serve the heart of the city. But despite indications closure could happen this year, it appears no progress has been made since October.
At yesterday's city council meeting, a resolution was passed to allow for the city to begin negotiations with the owner of the long-embattled building. Plans call for the shelter to be replaced by a consolidated police, fire, and SWAT facility.
