Design Awards Recognize 7 Snazziest Projects of the Year

Beyond the multitude of monotonous glass skyscrapers, there's some pretty good architecture happening in Atlanta. Last year, major openings made splashes and a few high-profile projects garnered national and international attention. But here at home, sometimes the best projects fly under the radar, unappreciated. Last weekend, the Georgia chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) acknowledged some of the top designers and projects in the state at their annual Georgia Design Awards ceremony. From an unbuilt park in Istanbul to a children's hospital in Florida, the awards recognized firms large and small from the Peach State. But since this is Curbed Atlanta… let's note that seven of the 15 awards were for buildings constructed in Atlanta, meaning eight awards have no relevance to us.
