As 2019—and another decade—takes its final festive breaths, Atlanta is gearing up for an evening of fun, food, and celebration.

From early festivities with the kids at noon to an active start in the great outdoors on New Year’s Day, there’s no shortage of merriment to be found in and around the city.

Kids’ Early NYE Celebration

For families wanting to ring in the new year together, Stone Mountain Park will start the celebration during its Stone Mountain Christmas events on December 31. Following the Snow Angel Snowfall and Fireworks Finale at 8:30 p.m., New Year’s Eve activities will take over, including costumed characters, music, and dancing.

At 8:59 p.m., the countdown will start, and, at 9 p.m., snow and fireworks will signal the start of 2020.

Tickets start at $31.95. 

New Year’s Eve Bash at The Battery Atlanta

Now in its third year, the New Year’s Eve Bash at The Battery Atlanta offers two celebrations December 31 to accommodate celebrants of all ages. The fun starts at 6 p.m. in the Plaza with The Heavy Hitters, BLOOPER, and performance painter David Girabaldi, followed by a balloon baseball drop at 8 p.m.

Then, at 9 p.m., the 12South Band takes the Georgia Power Pavilion Stage followed by a midnight countdown accompanied by pyrotechnics, confetti, and fireworks.

Free parking available in the Red, Green, and Purple decks.

New Beers Eve

Atlanta Beer Festivals will celebrate New Year’s Eve with the eighth annual New Beers Eve at Front Page News in Little Five Points. Starting at 9 p.m. Dec. 31, this all-inclusive party will feature music, a DJ, an appetizer buffet, liquor, wine, and more than 40 beer choices.

Tickets are $80 from December 24 to 30 and $95 on December 31.

Noon Year’s Eve

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on December 31, kids of all ages can celebrate New Year’s Eve on The Roof at Ponce City Market with face-painting, balloon artists, live entertainers, arts and crafts stations, complimentary snacks for kids, and food and drink specials. At 11:59 a.m., there will be a countdown to noon followed by a balloon release.

Tickets are $15 for adults and children age 3 and older. Children age 3 and younger are free. Tickets for unlimited gameplay will be available for $15, which includes one hour of ice skating.

New Year’s Celebration with Atlanta Symphony Orchestra

Returning for a second year, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will help revelers ring in 2020 with a memorable performance at Byers Theatre at City Springs. While the main performance starts at 8 p.m. December 31, attendees have the option of enjoying a pre-show dinner starting at 6 p.m.

Reserved tickets start at $60 and include one drink ticket. The pre-show dinner starts at $60. VIP tickets are $150 and include the pre-show dinner. A Decadent Dessert package will be offered for $20.20 and will be available either during intermission or following the concert.

On December 31 at 9 p.m. at City Winery, partygoers can welcome 2020 with a variety of wine options, liquor, beer, and food, all coupled with live music by Coast Guard and a DJ. Tickets start at $99, with VIP tickets available. Cocktail attire required.

“First Day Hikes” in Georgia’s State Parks

Start the year off enjoying the great outdoors at one of Georgia’s State Parks. On January 1 at many of the more than 60 locations available, ranger-led hikes will take visitors through the landscape, where they will see vistas only available during the winter months.

For those with resolutions to get fit in 2020, this would make a great start to the year.

Hosted by the Atlanta Track Club, this event allows revelers to kick off the new year with a 5K, One Mile, and 50m Dash through Piedmont Park. Held rain or shine, the event starts at 10 a.m. January 1, and runners will receive a T-shirt (5K) or medals (One Mile & 50m Dash).

Registration for the 5K is $35 through December 30 and $45 on race day; One Mile registration is $10 for ages 15 and older, while the 50m Dash registration is free.
