Ask an architect or critic about the top U.S. cities for architecture. We'd bet Atlanta would not rank among their tops. But that doesn't mean the City Too Busy to Hate has been too busy to employ some talented architects to design some interesting and -we dare say- landmark buildings here in the state capital of Georgia over the years. It is in this spirit that we bring you the Inaugural Curbed Atlanta Architectural Tour of Atlanta. We are not architects, nor would we consider ourselves even novice architecture critics. Or remedial students of architecture history. But we do have eyes, a brain, an appreciation for the marvels of the built environment and many years living in the Dirty South. So we've selected a slate of structures we believe serve as a primer for the best Atlanta has to offer the canon of architecture. Some are old, some are brand spanking new. Some are homages to the masters, some live on the cutting edge of design and building technology. But they all share an importance to the City of Atlanta, and look to be in place for a long time. Have we made boneheaded inclusions or unforgivable omissions? By all means let us know.
