Which 'Project of Year' Finalist Should be Tops in Atlanta?
If you know anything about this award then you know that the winner will be whichever company has contributed the most money to ULI. ULI is a great org, generally, but this award is an annual joke. But that’s ok, there are bigger issues to worry about. And it’s fun to discuss. I agree, Buckhead should win.
Which 'Project of Year' Finalist Should be Tops in Atlanta?
Buckhead Atlanta. Incorporates office, retail, and residential. Restored a street grid. Increases density. Already drawing plenty of investments in the areas surrounding development. This is an incredible example of good development, and the ULI would be foolish not to recognize that.
Urban Land Institute: Suburbs like Atlanta’s will thrive forever
A few random thoughts:
1. As the graphic shows, the ULI study defines suburb VERY broadly. Many areas that most readers think of as intown are suburbs according to the ULI study. I’m not sure most of the posters seemed aware of this.
2. "Millienials" and "hipsters" really aren’t the same thing. Some millenials are upper-middle-class hipster types; others are not-very-well educated poor people, and others don’t fit well into either category. The sort of people who fit the millenial stereotype (highly educated, socially liberal) are just a fraction of their generation.
To Hell With Beautifying The Connector — Let's Cap It!
Fabulous idea that is not new. CAP has been investigating the possibility of this for years, along with ULI. The recent "beautification" project announcement is a small part of this overall idea.
The concept is to create value by building public space above the highway. Current properties that sit along the highway are worth 1/5 of what they could be worth if they were along a linear park.
