The Masquerade will soon be ready to open in Underground Atlanta, following months of frantic preparation. Meanwhile, a future home on the Westside is no longer in the cards, following the resolution of a lawsuit.
Masquerade leaders promise the new Westside digs will be "fancy" with ample parking — and that the "essence" of the Masquerade will survive the transition. Home since 1989, the North Avenue venue will shutter for good in mid-August.
Given the area's explosive post-recession growth, and the magical allure of the adjacent Beltline, the Masquerade's fate should come as no surprise, but sentimentality is to be expected when the walls start coming down.
Atlanta's storied music venue the Masquerade will soon be closed and redeveloped into a residential-anchored mixed-use development. SWH Residential intends to bring 228 apartments, restaurants, and retail space to the Beltline-adjacent site.
